Our History
A community response, over 65 years strong
1956
The Cloverdale Senior Citizens' Housing Society was formed in response to a real and growing need in the community — affordable, dignified housing for local seniors. What began with a small group of committed volunteers has continued for generations, always anticipating and responding to the needs of Cloverdale's senior population.
2009
Bethshan Gardens officially opened on January 31, 2009, replacing an older 16-unit seniors' housing building on the same site with a brand-new 71-unit independent living residence. The ribbon-cutting drew a standing-room-only crowd, celebrated with cake, conversation, and tours of the new building.
Today, that same non-profit foundation keeps Bethshan Gardens affordable — every rent dollar goes back into the community.
Governance
Led by experience, guided by care
Bethshan Gardens is guided by the Board of Directors of the Cloverdale Seniors' Housing Society — a group of community-minded volunteers who oversee the Society's mission, finances, and long-term planning on residents' behalf.
The Board is currently chaired by Tom Crump, who brings 35 years of senior management experience in acute care and long-term care facilities. Tom was the original manager of Bethshan Gardens, opening its doors in January 2009 and personally serving dinner to its first four residents. That hands-on history now shapes his leadership of the Board, as he works alongside fellow directors to keep Bethshan Gardens moving forward for the benefit of its residents.
